Based in Kitsilano and Fairview, the Vancouver Eagles Basketball Performance Training Program returns this Fall 2026 at Tennyson Elementary and L’École Bilingue Elementary. Designed for motivated young athletes across Vancouver seeking advanced skill development, this 9-week program provides a structured, high-intensity environment ahead of school team tryouts. Over past seasons, our performance athletes have experienced remarkable growth, successfully translating high-repetition practice habits into confident, high-level execution on their school and competitive rosters.

Why Performance Training Drives Results

The core focus of Performance Training is bridging the gap between practice drills and live game execution. Rather than running basic, low-intensity sets, athletes are exposed to game-speed repetitions and structured decision-making scenarios.

By maintaining small coach-to-player ratios, experienced Vancouver Eagles coaches deliver individualized feedback in real time. Players receive hundreds of purposeful repetitions every session, ensuring proper mechanics, footwork, and habits are locked in. Athletes are grouped by age and skill level whenever appropriate to keep every player challenged in a competitive, growth-focused setting.

Core Focus Areas

Practices are structured to elevate every aspect of an athlete’s technical foundation and tactical awareness:

  • Advanced Ball Handling: Dynamic control, change of pace, and handling under defensive pressure.
  • Shooting Mechanics & Game Shooting: Form refinement, balance, footwork, and quick-release catch-and-shoot reps.
  • Finishing at the Rim: Contact finishes, euro-steps, floaters, and using both hands around the basket.
  • Footwork & Agility: Explosive first steps, defensive lateral movement, and balance control.
  • Basketball IQ & Decision Making: Reading floor spacing, understanding help defense, and making fast choices.
  • Offensive Scoring Moves: Creating space off the dribble and utilizing counter moves.
  • Defensive Fundamentals: On-ball containment, off-ball positioning, and communication.
  • Passing Under Pressure: Reading passing lanes and delivering accurate feeds in tight windows.
  • Conditioning & Game Pace: Building the functional endurance required for high-level play.
  • Small-Sided Games: Applying learned concepts in 2v2, 3v3, and controlled live-play situations.
