Bring it in, Eagles! Coach here. As we look ahead to the heart of our summer basketball camp schedule, our coaching staff is preparing for a week that fundamentally transforms how young athletes look at the game. While scoring points might grab the immediate headlines, exceptional passing and playmaking are what actually control the tempo and win basketball games.

If you want your child to develop elite court vision, build unshakeable confidence, and develop a high basketball IQ, Week 3 of our July summer basketball camp (July 13–17, 2026) at Blessed Sacrament School is exactly where they need to be.

Why Playmaking Changes the Entire Game

A team that moves the ball effectively completely dictates the rhythm of the game. No matter how fast a defender can slide their feet, the ball moves faster. Precise, purposeful passing collapses defensive lines, easily beats aggressive full-court traps, and creates high-percentage shots for everyone on the floor.

Beyond the tactical strategy, unselfish play is incredibly contagious. When players learn to share the ball and actively create opportunities for their teammates, team chemistry skyrockets, and the sport becomes infinitely more fun for everyone involved. If your child has goals of making a competitive school or club team this upcoming fall, mastering these playmaking skills is completely non-negotiable.

Our 4-Step Playmaking Progression

Inside our Fairview/Cambie gym, we use our signature A.C.T. (Accountability, Confidence, Tenacity) curriculum to guide players through a proven learning framework:

  1. Core Mechanics: We drill the physical fundamentals, ensuring players can deliver accurate chest, bounce, and overhead passes with both their dominant and non-dominant hands.
  2. Spatial Awareness: We train athletes to play with their eyes up. Dribbling with the chin up allows players to utilize their peripheral vision and spot open teammates instantly.
  3. Timing and Placement: A great pass delivered a second late turns into a turnover. We teach players to deliver the ball to open space, hitting teammates exactly when and where they need it.
  4. Live Decision-Making: Through structured, high-energy scrimmages, players practice reading the help defense in real time, learning when to attack the basket versus when to kick the ball out.
